BOOK DESIGN
This is a book that is redesigned from the original version called the "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes". The size and the structure of the letters change according to the main character, Sadako's emotions. There are graphical shapes of folding the paper cranes on the pages, to symbolize Sadako's effort on fighting with her illness after the nuclear bomb in Hiroshima, Japan. The actual golden paper crane in the last page shows a hopeful gift that Sadako got from her friend, Chizuko.
「サダコと千羽鶴」という小説を、こだわった文字組やレイアウトでリデザインした作品である。サダコの感情によって文字の並び方や大きさが変わり、読者がサダコの気持ちを味わうことができるように構成した。ページをめくるたびに、鶴の折り紙が徐々に作られていて、サダコが毎日千羽鶴を折りながら病気と戦う場面を象徴する。最後のペー ジに、立体化した金色の鶴が挟まれている。この金色の鶴はサダコの側にいてくれた友人のチヅコからもらった大切な宝物である。サダコが希望を持って一日一日を過ごせるようにしてくれたお守りでもある。
